Graphite Work in Progress

I decided to take a break from colored pencils and go a quick graphite piece. I started this yesterday on Fabriano Uno 140lb hot press paper. I don't remember using this paper before and am really liking it. It's perfect for graphite. What do you think about me putting red color on the tulips? Would it detract too much from the portrait?

Valerie, this is great! I think if your darks are dark enough (darker than the red) then red in the tulips won't detract (the idea being that enough contrast will keep the attention rather than the color). You could always add a light background color then with the red in the tulips and the background, the girl would be really highlighted.

It's fun to take a break and do something different isn't it?

Thank you, Rose! Yes, it is fun to take a break and do something different and quick. This is my daughter and she is already asking to hang it up in her room.

I love this Valerie!!
I had re-entered your blog in my feed-reader and it was working for a while but now I see that I'm missing posts again. I'm just going to have to check it on my own. I hate to miss what's going on with you!
