Clementine - January 2009 Virtual Sketch Date

This month's photo reference was given by Jeanette Jobson . I first tried sketching this with Derwent's Inktense pencils because I thought a blue background would go nicely with the orange color of the clementine. Since I'm not a brush artist, this attempt did not go well. So, I went back to graphite to do a quick drawing. This took me about 1-1/2 hours to complete. I used the following pencils: Ebony, 4B, 2B, & B. It is drawn on a smooth bristol paper, 110 lb.

So nice Valerie! You really captured the values and texture.
I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. I've been meaning to send you an email. I never did get my Christmas cards out and I feel bad about that!
I hope you and your family are doing great.
:)

I love what you've added here Valerie...the horizon line and the lines on the table...they bring alot to the piece. So glad you did the VSD!

Very nice Valerie. I like how you caught the depth in the inner rind segments, something I found difficult when I did mine. Great piece.

Beautiful job! I, too, really like the lines on the table -- terrific idea.

Your clementine is different in that you have so much space around it, with the lines of the counter pulling our eyes to the center of interest. The effect is peaceful and quiet,
